Instructor Certification

Become a Certified Safety Kids Instructor! This is the BEST way to learn how to present the most motivating and effective lesson.

Instructor Certification and Training is valuable for:

  • Classroom teachers
  • Guidance Counselors
  • Crime Prevention Practitioners
  • Social Workers
  • Day Care Center Directors
  • Any one else who works with children

In one six-hour session you will become certified to teach Charlie Check-First, Kind and Caring Kids, and Responsible Reporting. In addition, you will:

  • Interact with other instructors: share ideas of what works and does not work in other communities
  • Receive in-depth instruction on how to "get the most" out of each lesson and topic.
  • Discover ideas to use for 10-minute Sparklers (when you need something fun and productive for kids to do to fill a short time period)
  • Learn how to combine topics to present the most in a short time.
  • Get a hands-on approach for how to use the materials
  • Learn fun and easy teaching tips

Be a Safety Kid includes a wealth of material on a variety of personal safety issues. After training, you should definitely not be lacking for ideas on presentation or reinforcement.

There is great flexibility in the curriculum! Each lesson is modular and provides for a wide range of needs, skills, development, and available supplies on hand. It is easy to customize these lessons to be appropriate and effective for your group of students.

There are two easy methods to present this material:

  1. Present one or two individual topics in a session, followed by a reinforcement activity. This is the most beneficial teaching method and is ideal for the classroom teacher who can use the lessons, worksheets, and the reinforcement activities periodically through-out the year. Lessons and reinforcement activities should be spaced out to allow for gradual and consistent learning.
  2. Present a general lesson that briefly covers many topics. Choose the topics that are most important for you and the students. This often works best for the crime prevention practitioner who has limited time in the classroom. Ask the classroom teacher to follow up with reinforcement activities and worksheets.
